PhD candidate at MERLN Institute for Technology-Inspired Regenerative Medicine · Hey! I’m Adrián, a PhD candidate at MERLN Institute and I&#39;m very passionate about the intersection of Biotechnology and Tissue Engineering.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;My journey began at the University of León, where I studied Biotechnology and ventured into research on how endocrine disruptors influence zebrafish gametogenesis. This experience was my gateway into molecular biology and set the stage for my ongoing curiosity about the biological world. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;During my extracurricular visit at the Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS), I expanded my horizons into neurobiology, further fueling my passion for science. Concurrently, I embraced science communication with the Biotechnologists Association of León (ABLe), learning the importance of making science accessible and engaging.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;My path led me to Maastricht University for a Master&#39;s in Biomedical Sciences, where I dived into cell communication studies at the MERLN Institute and worked on an in vitro model for glaucoma. This period was highlighted by a best presentation award at the MOSA Conference, a proud moment that reflected my dedication during my Internships.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Now, as a PhD candidate at MERLN, I&#39;m exploring new technologies to create complex in vitro models. In my project we aim to better understand how different types of cells interact within 3D environments, potentially opening the door to a new class of in vitro models, more biomimetic, with higher resolution and more complex.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Simultaneously, serving as the PhD representative has allowed me to connect with my peers on a different level, advocating for a supportive research environment and fostering a sense of community.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Looking forward, I’m convinced that the only way to innovate and build better in vitro models is through the combination of Engineering and Biology.
