58% of India’s population relies on agriculture to earn their living is an estimation established by IBEF(Indian Brand Equity Foundation). In view of this, farmers contribute most to the Indian economy amongst many other professions. While technology is evolving, the agricultural sector still follows ad-hoc procedures and is yet to be digitized. Commencing from the rudimentary activities of framing like sowing seeds, soil maintenance of the field, timely irrigation of the crops and appropriate harvesting schedule are some of the essential tasks among many others. This paves the way for technology to help and support farmers perform their rudimentary tasks smartly and help them focus on other complicated tasks that require human intervention. Technologies like IoT, AI/ML and Server-End technologies can essentially help in creating a pipeline of streamlined processes that are reliable and convenient to farmers. These technologies help build an ecosystem of smart processes which could eventually lead to making farming an easier occupation and less prone to risks. The proposed system in this article provides IoT-oriented solutions involving precision farming and robotics to help farmers reduce human effort. In Particular, the idea being put forward aims to provide an automatic seeding robot which would take charge of seed sowing, further over this design, making use of the base structure of the robot other functionalities such as soil moisture content detection for irrigation assistance and plant disease prediction can be achieved by making use of swappable modules which contain different types of sensors bringing about an efficient manner of farming along with the use of data visualization tools to help the farmers to make educated decisions to increase their crop yield and thereby increase the profits earned. Also a dashboard would be provided to tie all this up over the cloud, that gives timely predictions and alerts to the farmer which will be useful to take the necessary precautions and act quickly so as to reduce crop and land damage.

A question almost all of us have asked at some point.

During the final class of NBA 6070: Designing Data Products with Lutz Finger, we dove deep into this, and the truth is both fascinating and a little unsettling.

You know the feeling if you've ever had a conversation with a friend and soon after saw an ad for exactly what you talked about. It seems like your phone was listening to you the entire time you were having that conversation.

But here’s what’s happening (hint: no, your social media apps are not spying on you 😄):
If social media apps were constantly listening and analyzing every conversation on every device, the amount of data generated would be astronomical. Your phone simply couldn’t process or transmit that volume efficiently. It would drain your battery, heat your device, and cripple your internet connection.
Instead, what’s really at play is the concept of digital trails.

Whenever we browse the internet, engage on social media, or use apps, we leave behind subtle — and sometimes not-so-subtle — footprints. These trails include everything from the websites we visit and the searches we make, to the location data we share and even metadata from our interactions. 

Advertisers use these clues to build detailed profiles and target us with highly relevant ads. So, while it feels spooky, it’s often just smart algorithms piecing together your digital behavior, not your private conversations.

Oftentimes, the ad was already shown to you before that conversation ever happened, but you didn’t notice it until later. Our brains tend to connect the dots in hindsight, making it feel like a coincidence or conspiracy when really, it was just targeted marketing doing its job quietly in the background.

And here’s the important takeaway: → Nothing is ever truly free!

When we use “free” services, we often pay with our data. That data powers the highly targeted (and sometimes eerily accurate) ad experiences we see.

A great reminder that privacy today isn’t just about what we say, it’s about what we unknowingly share every day!

💳 Buy-Now-Pay-Later: A modern convenience or a growing concern?
As part of my Capstone project under the Digital Technology Immersion at the Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management, I’ve been researching Buy Now, Pay Later apps like Klarna, Affirm, and Afterpay.

In 2024, around 86.5 million people used BNPL services, and that number is expected to hit 91.5 million in 2025. That’s a massive shift in how people are choosing to spend.

It got me thinking as to why so many people are using these apps:
BNPL lets you buy something now and pay for it later in installments, often with 0% interest. Sounds great, right? It feels like there’s no catch. You get the item you want, and the payment just fades into the background.

But here’s the thing: compared to credit cards, which require approval and often come with 19 to 23% interest, BNPL apps feel easy and harmless. In reality, they can charge steep late fees, sometimes up to 25% of what you bought.

So, how do these companies make money?
They charge merchants a cut, usually about 5% of the sale. They also make a lot from late fees if you miss a payment. And often, they use your shopping data to help brands target you more effectively.

What stuck with me, though, was how this taps into human psychology. Brands spend millions studying what makes people hit "buy now."

Brands focus on 4 key concepts:
-> The pain of paying is reduced when costs are spread out
-> Temporal discounting gives us instant gratification
-> Artificial urgency (“Only 3 left at this price!”)
-> Clever UX designs subtly steer your decisions

The concern? BNPL makes it feel like you have more money than you do. We’ve reached a point where you can finance a burrito on DoorDash. That’s not just convenience. It’s a warning sign.

I’m not saying these apps are bad. But they can create spending habits that are hard to break. Financial literacy is more important than ever, especially for young adults.

One line from the book, "The Psychology of Money", that really stuck with me:
"Getting money is one thing. Keeping it is another."

Duolingo just pulled off another wild marketing stunt, and honestly, I’m not even surprised anymore!

Having been an avid user of Duolingo, I've always admired their innovative approach to gamification, encouraging users to maintain streaks and stay engaged. 

Duo the Owl is well known for its passive-aggressive comments and presence on all of Duolingo's socials. In February 2025, Duolingo announced the "death" of their iconic mascot, Duo the Owl, and he perished while waiting for users to complete their lessons. 

They even depicted Duo as a lifeless icon across their social media platforms, complete with X's for eyes, to signify his demise. To "resurrect" Duo, users were challenged to collectively earn 50 billion in-app XP.​

The results of this stunt were honestly astounding:​
--> User Engagement: Daily Active Users (DAU) surged by 51%, reaching 40.5 million.​ 
--> New Users: Daily downloads increased by 15%, totaling 172,000 new downloads.​

This stunt not only showcased Duolingo's unique brand voice but also demonstrated the power of creative marketing in driving user engagement and growth. 

Thinking outside the box not only brings attention to your brand but also engages your community in a meaningful way!
