Gary Bandy is an accomplished public finance accountant, teacher, and author with over three decades of experience in local government, financial management, and education. He is the author of two successful textbooks about public financial management and has extensive experience teaching public sector financial management at universities and elsewhere. He has also developed online training courses, including a certificate in public financial management course for ACCA and several courses for The Open University Business School. Gary’s professional journey started as a trainee accountant in local government. After several promotions he reached the level of Director of Financial Services at Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council before starting his own consultancy in 2005. Gary has worked as a public financial management consultant on various projects in the UK and overseas, including providing financial advice on outsourcing services for many local councils and police forces. He also has a lot of experience of teaching public financial management, in person and online. Lately, he has changed direction to focus on helping professional accountants to improve the effectiveness of their writing and presentation skills. Gary has been a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy since 1990, and he received a Master’s in Public Administration with distinction from Warwick Business School. In 2013, he completed the Public Financial Management in a Changing World course at Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Gary has also been involved in voluntary work, serving as Treasurer for the Friends of Ibba Girls School in South Sudan for eight years. He was responsible, along with other trustees, for the proper running of a UK-registered charity with an annual income of over £400,000.
