AI LLM Pricing: One size fits all or is there room for regional nuances? 🤔

The current flat $20 fee model for AI LLM subscriptions like OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus, Google’s Gemini Advanced, Perplexity Pro and Anthropic’s Claude Pro has made me curious about the complete disregard for regional pricing. While it offers simplicity, it got me thinking about its accessibility and equity.

Software services frequently adopt regional pricing to cater to varying economic realities. Spotify, for instance, charges ~$11 in the US, but only ~$1.5 in India for its Individual Plans. This approach helps expand their reach and fosters wider adoption 🌏

Key questions to consider here:

👉 Could regional pricing help accelerate AI adoption in developing economies?

👉 Are there technical hurdles to implementing regional pricing for AI LLMs?

👉 What business considerations might be driving the current model?

👉 Does the flat fee create an invisible barrier for users in lower-income regions?

👉 How was the $20 benchmark established, and what are the underlying economic factors?

Considering purchasing power parity, ₹1600 ($20) translates to roughly $70 in the US. Would the US market be willing to spend $70/month for the same subscriptions?

 Apple just went unconventional with something as common as a toggle switch 🔴

Toggles in digital UI have traditionally used green for the ON state, inspired by physical switches where toggling to ON enables a function. 
But with the new red toggle exclusive to iPhone 15 Pros, I believe Apple wants us to relate back to the classic physical 'silent switch' 🤫 on previous iPhones.

Apple's choice to diverge from the green ON standard shows thoughtful design. Could this red toggle improve user experience by tapping into engrained behaviors? Or might it cause confusion by deviating from typical toggle color norms? 🤔

My LinkedIn and Instagram messaging workflows have hit a major speed bump!😡

Am I the only one missing the swipe-left gesture to get to messages? 😭 Feels like such an unexpected detour from a long established pattern. 

 👉 What user experience metrics are prompting these platforms to move away from such an ingrained habit?

 👉 Did they consider the impact on power users who relied heavily on the swipe-left functionality?

👉 And why isn't anyone else talking about this? Has everyone just adjusted already??

Honestly, an option to toggle the old method back on would have made this transition much smoother. This change has added such friction to checking my messages!! Or maybe that’s the intent 😪

UI Engineers vs Front End Engineers - What's in a name? 🤔

"UI Engineers" feels like a much more craft-driven and purposeful term than "Front End Engineers." As someone who has worked with engineers who value craft and challenged me to be better, I couldn't agree more. The result? A beautiful and pixel-perfect outcome like no other. ✨ 

While designers are encouraged to develop empathy towards engineers and learn their language to build a rapport, I believe it's equally important for engineers to develop an eye for craft. This way, designers can be challenged to push the boundaries of their craft as well. I believe the most beautiful products out there are a result of such overlapping talent. It doesn’t threaten each other, it builds respect and growth to meet a mutual goal — an unforgettable product experience 🪄
