Let me tell you why you should:

📂 It&#39;s your design documentation

— It helps developers structure their divs using layers
— It is more scalable and manageable for screens
— It allows others to understand the structure

💼 It&#39;s your work ethic showcase

— You help yourself and others understand things
— You keep clean layers, you keep clean designs
— You can flex on being an &quot;Elite Layer Namer&quot;

🏆 It&#39;s your level-up skill

— It is usually a result of knowing what you are doing
— It usually helps you learn how to be more efficient 
— It helps you build &quot;easily developable&quot; things

It takes time, It takes effort, It takes learning.

Never start with a design system. Period.

We all love design systems; I get it.
We all are here to read about them to be pros.
But that&#39;s not the first thing to do for a fresh product.

Before that:

➡️ Focus on creating ~15 screens without any system
➡️ Experiment and brainstorm different visual styles
➡️ Test your visuals with the product and dev team

Thanks to that:

✅ You get a sense of what your product may look like
✅ You are not blocked by placeholder components
✅ You identify patterns you will need to build soon

Everything without:

🟧 Spending time on placeholder styles, typography, or components.
🟧 Being slowed down by poorly prepared placeholder assets.

𝗧𝗟𝗗𝗥;
Firstly experiment, then build systems, not the other way around.

Hey hey gmorning everyone! Documentation templates are done, now it&#39;s QA and testing time!

I&#39;m working on company website design, and I&#39;m using documentation components first time in real battle.

I found a lot of bugs and oversights, tweaking components all the time!

Remember to test your things before you call them done! (like I did on my last post 🤐)

Level up your Figma properties game!

(3 easy-to-apply tips below)

All designers love components, do you agree?
But each of us builds them slightly differently!

Here are mine 3 little big tips about components:

1. 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗳 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲
Change a list with 2 options into a true/false boolean

✅ It&#39;s way faster and easier to click boolean
⚠️ But if the prop is going to expand, stay with the list

2. 𝗨𝘀𝗲 &quot;↳&quot; 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴
Put it into a property that correlates with the above one

✅ Even better if this prop appears when the parent is on
⚠️ But don&#39;t overuse it, it makes your prop name shorter

3. 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝘀
Start each swap property prop with the &quot;swap&quot; prefix

✅ Helps you keep consistency across components
⚠️ But combined with &quot;↳&quot; make the prop name short

&quot;It ain&#39;t much, but it&#39;s honest work&quot;

What&#39;s the worst thing you can do to designers?

📃 Dear Product Owners,
📃 Dear Lead Designers,
📃 Dear Developers,
📃 Dear Managers,
📃 Dear Clients, 

If you open a Figma file and you see designers working, then:

❌ Don&#39;t click on their avatars to zoom on their work
❌ Don&#39;t move, update, or even correct their work
❌ Don&#39;t comment ad hoc about their work

Unless you want to freak them out or distract them, do this:

✅ Consciously avoid the page where they work
✅ Slack them about things you remembered
✅ Share feedback during the review

— No one likes to be observed
— No one likes to be interrupted
So don&#39;t do this to your designers

It&#39;s an unspoken Figma rule; now you know it!

So, how does Figma make things right?

I caught myself on this recently.
I primarily use Figma for &quot;everything&quot;.
Besides product design stuff,  I often do:

🎨 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀
Post images, memes, graphic edits, etc

Before: Gimp, Photoshop — Now: only Figma

🖌️ 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀
Illustrations, logos, icons, brandings, etc.

Before: Illustrator — Now: only Figma

📝 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀
Brainstorms, workshops, card sorting, etc.

Before: Miro — Now: only Figma (Figjam)

📈 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
Talk slides, feature presentations, etc.

Before: Google Slides — Now: only Figma Slides

I don&#39;t create advanced graphics or vectors.
So Figma features are working for me just fine!

It&#39;s just too comfortable to have everything in 1 place.
Laziness? Maybe. Is it wrong to be lazy? You tell me!
